Petit Trianon Palace Le Petit-Trianon
histoire et description

To the cover of Petit Trianon Palace
Title Page
  • This work by Gustave Desjardins (1834-1902) gives a full account of the Petit Trianon palace built for Louis XV in a section of the park surrounding the Palace of Versailles. It is accompanied by 21 separate illustrations of the historical background, design and decoration, and consists of the following three parts:
    • The French Park
    • The English Park
    • Le Hameau (the peasant cottages Marie Antoinette had designed by Richard Mique [1728-1794], forming a small hamlet situated in the park.)

The rectangular parallelepiped properly formed by the palace exterior is regarded as the vanguard of neo-classicism, and makes a pleasing contrast with the graceful Italian-style architecture seen in the Grand Trianon Palace in the age of Louis XIV.
